Advancing Europe's AI future

Securing Europe's AI Future

A competitive European AI ecosystem requires legal certainty. The Copyright for AI Coalition champions robust Text and Data Mining (TDM) exceptions to build a truly sovereign and research-driven "AI Continent."

Why this matters

Why TDM Matters - The Prerequisites of Innovation

The Magic Cycle

Innovation relies on a seamless cycle: cutting-edge scientific research fuels commercial applications, which in turn finances future breakthroughs. Restricting access to training data breaks this cycle, shifting European capital and talent overseas.

The Legislative Foundation

Articles 3 and 4 of the Copyright in the Digital Single Market (CDSM) Directive allow for researchers and companies to derive insights and train models on legally available data. They are not loopholes, but necessary legal foundations of European AI. As the European Commission reviews the copyright framework, we must protect these exceptions from short-sighted over-regulation and ensure European AI creators enjoy a competitive legal framework.
